FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Field & Facility Rodent Control provides a specialist, shooting-only pest control service for farms, estates and industrial facilities across Kent. Our approach is permission-based, safety-led, and designed for clients who value discreet attendance and professional reporting.

If you have a question not covered below, please contact us here

Permission and authority

Do you require written permission?

Yes. All work is strictly permission-based and we require written authorisation before any attendance.

Authorisation must come from the landowner/occupier and, where applicable, the person entitled to grant the relevant shooting rights for the land. This protects the client, the site and ensures the service is properly controlled and lawful.

I’m a tenant / leaseholder / site user, can I instruct you to attend?

Not on its own. We cannot rely on instruction from a tenant, leaseholder, contractor, or general site user unless they can confirm and evidence they have authority to grant permission for this type of work.

If you manage or lease a site, we can proceed once we have one of the following:

  • written authorisation from the landowner/occupier, or

  • confirmation that your lease/tenancy includes the relevant authority (and you can evidence it), and/or

  • written authority from the person who holds the relevant shooting rights (where applicable).

If you’re unsure who needs to sign, email us and we’ll advise what’s required.

What paperwork do you use to confirm authority and site permission?

We use a simple Site Authorisation / Authority to Act form. It records:

  • the authorised person and their role

  • the site boundaries/areas covered

  • access arrangements and site controls

  • the scope of work and any limitations

  • date/time permissions (including out-of-hours where relevant)

This ensures clarity and consistency for farms, estates and facilities teams.

Services and scope

What do you actually do?

We provide a specialist shooting-only pest control service on suitable sites, focused on discreet reduction of pest activity where lawful and safe conditions can be achieved. Where requested, we provide clear, professional reporting after attendance.

Do you use bait, poison or trapping programmes?

No. We do not provide baiting/rodenticide programmes and we do not run trapping programmes. Our service is strictly shooting-only.

Do you offer proofing or building works?

We do not carry out proofing/building works as part of our core service. However, we can provide practical observations and recommendations (for example, access points, housekeeping and perimeter risks) to support your own maintenance team or contractor.

Who do you work with?

We typically support:

  • farms and estates

  • equestrian yards and rural businesses

  • warehouses, yards and industrial estates

  • facilities managers and site duty holders

  • secure sites with defined boundaries (subject to suitability)

We are not a “one size fits all” domestic pest control service.

Species and legal compliance

What pests can you help with?

We support sites with rodents and other permitted pest species where lawful, authorised and suitable for controlled attendance. The scope for any visit is confirmed during the enquiry process and recorded in site authorisation paperwork.

Can you do pest birds?

Potentially, yes, only where lawful and appropriately authorised, and only for species/situations that fall within the relevant licensing framework (for example, Natural England General Licences or an individual licence where required). We will confirm what is lawful for your site and circumstances before any work proceeds.

Can you do rabbits?

Potentially, yes, subject to permission and authority being in place. We will confirm who holds the relevant authority for the land and that written permission is in place prior to attendance.

Can you do foxes?

Potentially, yes, subject to permission and authority being in place. We will confirm who holds the relevant authority for the land and that written permission is in place prior to attendance.

Do you ever deal with protected wildlife?

No. Protected species (for example, bats and badgers) are not targeted. If protected wildlife is identified or reasonably suspected, we will advise on the appropriate next steps and adjust the approach accordingly.

Coverage and attendance

What areas do you cover?

We provide Kent-wide attendance. If you’re just outside Kent, you can still enquire, we’ll confirm feasibility based on location, access and scheduling.

Do you offer out-of-hours attendance?

Yes, by arrangement, and subject to site suitability and controlled access requirements. We are positioned to support clients who need discretion and minimal disruption.

How quickly can you attend?

Response times depend on:

  • location within Kent

  • access arrangements

  • the nature of the site and risks

  • existing bookings

We aim to respond promptly to enquiries and will advise the earliest suitable attendance window.

Do you work on residential properties?

Generally, no. Our service is designed for farms, estates and controlled commercial/industrial environments where safe conditions and controlled access can be achieved. If you’re unsure whether your site qualifies, contact us and we’ll advise.

Site suitability and safety

Is every site suitable for shooting-only control?

No. A safety-led service must be selective. Work only proceeds where:

  • safe working conditions can be established

  • safe stopping areas/backstops are available

  • controlled access can be maintained

  • the work is lawful and authorised

If those conditions cannot be met, we will not proceed.

What do you need from the client to make the site safe?

We may require:

  • a named site contact during attendance (or agreed access method)

  • agreement on working areas and boundaries

  • controlled access (keeping staff, visitors and vehicles out of the working zone)

  • confirmation of hazards (livestock movement, plant/HGV routes, public access, neighbouring boundaries)

Where a site induction or permit-to-work is required, we will comply.

Do you carry out a risk assessment?

We operate a safety-led approach and assess suitability before and during attendance. Where required by the site, we can align to your site RAMS/permit-to-work process. If conditions change, we reserve the right to stop work.

What if the site turns out not to be suitable on arrival?

We operate a safety-led standard. If safe conditions and controlled access cannot be achieved, we will not proceed. Where a visit is aborted due to site conditions, access issues, or permissions not being in place, the attendance may be chargeable in line with our Terms & Conditions.

Booking process

How do I book?

Email enq@fieldfacilityrodentcontrol.co.uk or use the contact form here. We’ll respond with next steps and confirm whether the site is suitable.

What information should I include in my enquiry?

Including the below speeds everything up:

  • site postcode and site type (farm/industrial/estate/etc.)

  • where activity is being seen (building/area)

  • access arrangements (keys, codes, escort, induction)

  • operating hours and whether out-of-hours is preferred

  • confirmation you have authority to grant permission for work (or who does)

Do you offer one-off visits or ongoing support?

Both. Many clients start with a one-off attendance and then move to:

  • a short programme of follow-up visits, or

  • an ongoing support arrangement (for example, monthly attendance)

We will recommend the most sensible structure based on site conditions and what you need.

Pricing and quotations

How is pricing structured?

Pricing is provided as a clear written quote, typically structured as:

  • a one-off attendance,

  • a short programme of visits (for ongoing pressure), and/or

  • an ongoing support arrangement (for example, monthly attendance) where appropriate.

The right structure depends on the site environment, access and the level of activity.

What affects the cost?

Costs are site-specific and are influenced by:

  • site type and complexity (farm, estate, warehouse, yard, industrial facility)

  • travel and location within Kent

  • access arrangements (escort/induction/permit-to-work requirements)

  • attendance timing (standard hours vs out-of-hours by arrangement)

  • the number of attendance sessions likely to be required

  • any reporting requirements (for example, facilities management records)

We will always confirm the scope and cost before attendance.

Do you offer a site assessment before booking?

Yes. Where needed, we can carry out a suitability discussion and/or site assessment to confirm boundaries, access, safe working conditions, and the most appropriate attendance structure. Any chargeable assessment is agreed in advance.

Are there any additional charges I should be aware of?

We aim to keep pricing straightforward. Additional charges only arise where there are material changes to what was agreed (for example, extended waiting time due to access delays, additional visits requested, or unexpected site restrictions). Where applicable, these are discussed and agreed before proceeding.

Reporting, standards and privacy

Do you provide reporting?

Yes. Where requested, we provide a clear visit summary suitable for farm/estate records and facilities management documentation. Reports typically cover observations, actions taken and practical recommendations.

Can you work alongside an existing pest contractor?

Yes. We can provide specialist support alongside existing site arrangements where appropriate. Our scope remains shooting-only unless agreed otherwise in writing.

Can you guarantee a pest-free site?

No honest contractor should guarantee that. Rodent pressure is influenced by site conditions, neighbouring land, housekeeping routines, waste/feed practices and building integrity. What we provide is a professional, structured approach that reduces activity and supports long-term control through documented recommendations and follow-up options.

Will my site be handled discreetly?

Yes. Discretion is a key part of the service. We work with a professional, low-profile approach appropriate for commercial environments.

How do you handle personal data and site information?

We only use information needed to respond to enquiries, schedule attendance and provide reporting. For full detail, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
